Last quarter, the Grade 1 boys learned about fiction books. They have learned that in fiction books spiders can write a diary, pigs can fly and hippopotamus can sing. They have learned that fiction are stories based from the imagination of the author.
This quarter, they will learn that the OPPOSITE of fiction is non-fiction. In non-fiction, they can read about things that happen in real life. They can read about stories that are true or real.
Books in non-fiction are arranged by subject or topic using a special classification system. This system is called the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) System. Below is the video used in class to explain what DDC is.
