The Newly Integrated Learning Resource Center

by: Ruth De Luna

For the past few years, a couple of Grade School and High School departments have been integrated to ascertain needs of the school. Among the integrated departments are the Physical Education Department, the Chinese Department and the Computer Education Department. Based on the evaluation made, integrated departments have become more responsive to the needs of the school. Thus, for School Year 2009-2010, the Learning Resource Center of both units have been integrated and is now known as Integrated Learning Resource Center (ILRC).

To formalize the integration and to review the role of the ILRC, Ms. Aimee Apolinario, HS Assistant Principal for Academics and GS Academic Coordinator, met with the ILRC personnel on May 6, 2009. She emphasized the vital role of the department in the academic and formation of the students. She also encouraged coordination with various academic and formation departments. Moreover, professional character and relationships were also tackled in the meeting. Furthermore, given that it is the first year that the ILRC personnel composed of librarians and staff from both the GS and HS will directly work with each other, a team building activity was planned and carried out last May. Thus, the ILRC personnel spent two days and one night in Pandi Bulacan from May 28 to 29, 2009 in order to build camaraderie as well as share best practices from the GS and HS LRCs.  As a result of the sharing of best practices, the ILRC was able to develop a more effective and responsive set of guidelines and policies. Likewise, the team building helped develop a positive attitude towards working with each other.

With all the preparation done, the ILRC personnel look forward to serve the Xavier Community better.
