Two of the main reasons for the integration of the GS and HS Learning Resource Centers are to maximize the school’s LRC collection and to align LRC policies and procedures in the different library operations for more effective and efficient service. Thus, beginning this school year, the ILRC takes charge of activities like Book Selection and Weeding.
Instead of conducting separate trips for GS and HS Middle Level Administrators, a single trip was organized last May 19, 2009 to give MLAs a chance to select books and AV resources to be added to the ILRC collection. The group visited F&J De Jesus Publishing in Makati and Fully Booked in Taguig.
To guide the MLAs in their selection, a list of materials purchased by the departments last school year was provided by the ILRC prior to the trip. From this trip, over 400 books and materials were gathered for review. The different departments were then invited to review and recommend resources that they need to the Library Development (LDC) headed by Ms. Aimee Apolinario, HS Assistant Principal for Academics and GS Academic Coordinator.
The LDC members composed of the GS and HS Assistant Principals, will then endorse the materials to the Principal for approval. Since the iLRC will add new resources, it is but proper to weed out some old materials from its collection. Thus, the entire community especially the different academic departments were also invited to identify resources which can already be weeded out. These weeded materials were given to our adopted school ERDA Technical School. The ILRC hopes to provide relevant and updated collection through this book selection and weeding activity that will benefit the students and the other members of the community.
